Meeple Terms of Service

Draft for review. Written as a starting point, not legal advice. Have a lawyer review it before launch and fill in every [bracketed] item.

Last updated: [date]

These terms are an agreement between you and [legal entity name] ("Meeple", "we", "us") for using meeple.chat. By using Meeple you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy.

1. What Meeple is

Meeple lets people make a meeple, an AI character trained on what they choose to share, and lets others talk to it by voice to learn about them before they connect. A meeple is an AI, not the person. It can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Don't rely on it alone for important decisions about someone, such as hiring; talk to the real person.

2. Who can use it

You must be 18 or older. To make a meeple you log in with LinkedIn, and you must be the person on that account. Keep your login secure; you're responsible for what happens under your account.

3. Your meeple and your content

  • It must be you. Make a meeple only of yourself. Don't make one of anyone else, real or invented, or pretend to be someone you're not.
  • Tell the truth. What you give your meeple should be true and yours to share. Don't include other people's private information, confidential information from an employer, or anything you don't have the right to share.
  • You own your content. Your stories, recordings and profile stay yours. You give Meeple a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, process, display and voice them, only to run and improve Meeple and to show your meeple to others. The licence ends when you delete your content, except for copies in backups for a short time and anything the law requires us to keep.
  • Voice cloning. Clone only your own voice. By ticking the consent box you confirm the voice is yours and agree that it's used to voice your meeple.
  • You're responsible for what you publish. You can edit, unpublish or delete your meeple at any time.

4. Talking to meeples

Anyone can talk to a published meeple without an account, within free daily limits. Conversations are recorded, and the meeple's owner can read them. Don't share sensitive information about yourself in a chat.

5. Rules for everyone

Don't:

  • harass, threaten, demean or discriminate against anyone, or try to make a meeple say something offensive or false about its owner;
  • use Meeple for spam, scams, or to collect people's information in bulk;
  • scrape, crawl or copy meeples, profiles or conversations, or use them to train AI models;
  • get around usage limits, security or our technical measures;
  • upload malware, or interfere with or overload the service;
  • break the law or anyone's rights, including privacy and intellectual property rights.

You can report a conversation or a meeple from the site. We may remove content, limit access or close accounts that break these rules.

6. Invites, pokes and sharing

When you invite someone or share a meeple link, you're sending it yourself, from your own accounts. Only invite people who'd reasonably want to hear from you. "Share on LinkedIn" posts to your feed only when you press it. Pokes and friend requests are rate-limited; don't use them to pester anyone. Saving someone to your list doesn't tell them, and isn't permission to contact them outside Meeple.

7. Third-party services

Meeple works with services such as LinkedIn, ElevenLabs and Calendly. Your use of them is also subject to their terms, and we're not responsible for them.

8. Our service

Meeple is free during testing. We may add paid features later, and we'll tell you before you're charged for anything. We may change, pause or stop features (for example voice chat when a monthly limit is reached). Meeple's name, logo, characters, art and software belong to us; these terms don't give you rights to them apart from using Meeple.

9. Ending things

You can delete your meeple and account at any time from your dashboard. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or to protect others, and we'll tell you why unless we can't. Sections 3 (licence wording for backups), 9, 10, 11 and 12 continue after your account ends.

10. Disclaimers

Meeple is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no promises that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that what a meeple says is accurate.

11. Limit of liability

To the extent the law allows, Meeple isn't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or lost profits, data or opportunities, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of US$100 or what you paid us in the 12 months before it. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited by law. You agree to cover our reasonable costs from claims caused by content you published or your breach of these terms.

12. Disputes and the law

These terms are governed by the laws of [state / country], and disputes go to the courts of [place], unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring them there. [Decide whether to add arbitration.]

13. Changes

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll tell you before the change takes effect. If you keep using Meeple after that, you accept the new terms.
