Meeple (meeple.chat) is a quick, fun way to learn about someone you're connecting with. People make a meeple, a small animated character trained on what they choose to share, and others can talk to it before they meet. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with and the choices you have.
"Meeple", "we" and "us" means [legal entity name], [address]. Contact: privacy@meeple.chat.
The short version
- You decide what your meeple knows. It only uses what you told it or approved. We never scrape LinkedIn or any other site to build it.
- Your published meeple is public. Anyone with the link, or anyone who finds you in search, can talk to it. You can unpublish or delete it at any time.
- Your email is never shown to other users.
- Conversations are recorded. When someone talks to your meeple, the conversation is saved and you can read it. Visitors are told this before they start.
- Your voice is cloned only if you tick the box. Otherwise your meeple uses a stock voice.
- We don't sell your personal information.
1. What we collect
If you make a meeple
| What | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| Your name, profile photo and email address | LinkedIn, when you log in. We do not receive your connections, messages or work history from LinkedIn. |
| How your meeple looks, your username, personality settings and greeting | You |
| Voice recordings and transcripts of your training conversations | You, when you talk to your meeple to train it |
| Your profile: stories, opinions, interests, experience, schools, what you're open to, what to ask you about and what's off limits | Extracted from your training transcripts by AI, then reviewed, edited and approved by you |
| A clone of your voice | Only if you tick the voice cloning consent box |
| Your Calendly link | Only if you connect it |
| Pokes, friend requests and friends | You and other users |
| Your links (LinkedIn, X, website, resume or portfolio, booking) | Only the ones you add |
| People you save to your list | You. Your list is private: the people on it are never told |
If you talk to a meeple
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| The audio and transcript of the conversation | To run the conversation, show the owner what their meeple was asked, and investigate reports |
| Your IP address and a random browser ID | To apply free daily voice limits and prevent abuse |
| Your rating of the chat ("Did this feel like talking to them?") | To improve Meeple |
| Your account, if you're logged in | Only shown to the meeple's owner if you agree to be shown |
When you use the site
- Basic usage events (for example "chat started", "meeple published"), tied to a random ID or your account ID. We do not put your email, transcripts or profile text in our analytics.
- Device and browser information, and logs needed to keep the service running and secure.
- If you invite someone by email, the name and email you enter.
- If you look for your LinkedIn connections, the file is read in your browser and only the names in it are sent to us, to find matching meeples. We don't keep the file or the names.
- If you connect a feed (a blog, newsletter, YouTube, Letterboxd or GitHub), we read its public posts and show new ones as your updates (straight away, or after you approve them).
- If you talk to the same meeple again, it may remember what you asked last time, from the saved chat, so it can pick up where you left off.
2. How we use it
- To run Meeple: log you in, build and run your meeple, let others find and talk to it, send notifications you asked for.
- To keep your meeple truthful: we check that every fact it uses comes from you.
- To keep Meeple safe: apply usage limits, detect abuse and review reported conversations.
- To improve Meeple, using usage events and chat ratings.
- To meet legal obligations.
We do not use your recordings, transcripts or profile to train our own AI models, and we do not sell or rent your personal information. [Confirm against each provider's settings before launch.]
3. What is public
When you publish your meeple, these are visible to anyone: your name, photo, username, how your meeple looks, your one-line "known for", your summary, suggested questions, and anything your meeple says from your approved profile, the links you add, what you're open to (shown as badges), and where you work or studied if it is in your approved profile. Anyone on the site can see when your meeple is online, chatting or training, never who it is chatting with. If topic search is on (it is by default), people can find you by your interests, experience and schools. You can turn topic search off, and you can unpublish your meeple, at any time.
Your email, your training recordings and your full transcripts are never public.
4. Who we share it with
We use these service providers to run Meeple. They process data on our behalf under their own terms and our agreements with them:
| Provider | What for |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, login, file storage, presence |
| Vercel | Hosting |
| ElevenLabs | Voice conversations, speech and voice cloning |
| Anthropic | Turning training transcripts into your profile |
| PostHog | Usage analytics |
| Resend | Sending notifications and invites |
| Login, and posting to your feed only when you press "Share on LinkedIn" | |
| Calendly | Booking, only if you connect it |
We also share information if the law requires it, to protect people's safety, or as part of a merger or sale of Meeple (and we would tell you first).
5. Voice recordings and voice cloning
Your training conversations are recorded so your meeple can learn from what you said. If you tick the consent box, ElevenLabs creates a clone of your voice so your meeple sounds like you. A voice clone may count as biometric information in some places. We use it only to voice your meeple, never sell it, and delete it when you turn cloning off or delete your meeple, and in any case within [30] days of either. You can switch back to a stock voice at any time.
6. How long we keep it
- Your meeple, profile and training transcripts: until you delete them or your account.
- Conversations with your meeple: [12 months], or until you delete your meeple.
- Voice clone: until you turn it off or delete your meeple.
- IP addresses and browser IDs for usage limits: [30 days].
- Backups are overwritten within [30 days].
When you delete your meeple, we delete its profile, transcripts, conversations and voice clone.
7. Your choices and rights
From your dashboard (/me) you can edit your profile, turn topic search off, turn voice cloning
off, unpublish your meeple or delete it and your account.
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK, or California), you may also have the right to access, correct, delete or export your data, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to complain to a data protection authority. Email privacy@meeple.chat and we'll respond within [30] days. [If serving the EU/UK: name the legal bases (contract for running your meeple, consent for voice cloning and optional sharing, legitimate interests for safety and analytics) and international transfer safeguards.]
8. Cookies
We use cookies and similar storage to keep you logged in, remember your browser ID for usage limits, and measure usage. [Add a cookie banner if required where you launch.]
9. Security
We use encryption in transit, access controls and row-level security so owners can only reach their own data. No service is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we'll tell you as the law requires.
10. Children
Meeple is for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger; if we learn we have, we delete it.
11. Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you by email or on the site before it takes effect.
